Philip Gray is an extreme artist, he paints pictures of his journeys and experiences. I like the quality of his images as they almost seem like photographs. Maybe this is an aspect i could look into as the pictures i took in turkey was my journey abroad and my memories there.
Planning it out.
From my landscape images i decided to brain storm what i liked about them and why i liked it. I figured the reason i found them intriguing was because of the blending, changing and layering of colours. I noticed how the colours were blending in a vertical line. I started thinking of artists work that was similar which might give me some inspiration. I found some interesting artists such as Philip Gray, Kimberly Conrad, Jan Beany and Pauline burbridge. All these artist look at landscapes in some way whether from a textile point of view or fine art. This week i will start to draw from my landscape images using different blending techniques such as using water colours, using different tones of pencil, soft pastels etc.
Influences and Inspirations task.
During my holidays i started to get interested in artists that focused on line and looked at different ways of creating them, from textiles artists to fine art drawings. I researched into artists such as Andrew Kenny, Emily Felderman and Caroline Andrieu. All these artists use lines but in there specialist areas. I wanted to somehow combine line and colour together for my project. Artist Emily Felderman has done this in her work, where she used small dashed lines of colour stitch to create such an effective but simple piece. Caroline Andrieu is a fashion illustrator, her work is fascinating to look at. Although she only uses fluid and delicate lines and adds a touch of subtle colour sometimes in her work, her pieces look realistic and seem like photographs. Andrew Kenny is a designer that hand and machine stitches linear patterns onto fashion garments.
This is a selection of my landscape images from holiday.
Inspirations.
Over the summer holidays, i visited Turkey and loved the scenery that i could see. The colours and lines in the pictures fascinates me and i feel i want to look further into this for my intentions project.
Evaluation.
Unit x has been a very exciting project and i would say i have gained quite a lot of new skills from this task from working in a group to improving my Photoshop skills. I thought working in a group for this project may have been difficult but i felt our group worked really well together, we corporated and understood each other well. Working in a team gave me an insight of how others worked and this improved my people skills. Each person from our group came from a different textiles background as some had main strengths in hand embroidery, dye, machine embroidery , Photoshop etc and i felt this combination worked well together and this helped me become stronger in other areas in textiles.
As our group project was on slow is beautiful, hand embroidery fitted in perfectly and i decided to go down this route. I tried to create the mould that was on the red brick by hand embroidering. I also had a chance to make some short clips of my work to show the growing and developing in my work. Although i found it quite challenging making the clips, i quite liked making them and this has brought a new set of skills to me which will be useful for upcoming and future projects. My individual work reflected back into my group work and this can be seen in our end final film.
I felt like we all struggled on the end final film as we had lack of knowledge on how to make a film, but we survived and still managed to produce an incredible film. Overall my group were fantastic to work with and we produced a significant amount of amazing work which will be seen in our end film.

Growing inside the shirt
Heres a video I made of one of my samples growing inside a shirt. Our group wanted to portray things growing inside a shirt as it was similar to things growing inside the human body. I had to crop and edit the images on photoshop and this is my outcome.

Video projecting on shirt
Once our film was complete we wanted to project it onto a shirt that was open to show our concept of inside Manchester, however we felt that it just didn't look right, as a group we thought that the projections on the shirt looked better live maybe we could project onto a shirt in MOSI?
We have a short clip of what it did look like.
